MCC 2015: Week 5: World’s Fair

Week 5’s theme was World’s Fair. The campers got a chance to see what some countries are known for and the international staff was able to share with the campers what their country is all about. During the week, campers participated in all-camp games and activities, slept under the stars, and showed off their moves at the dance.

On Monday, campers were able to create their own personal flag, putting what ever they wanted on it and played in an intense match of soccer and gaga.

On Tuesday, the entire camp had intentions of sleeping in the woods, till we heard a false alarm of thunder and were sent back to camp. After looking over the weather and assuring ourselves that everything was all clear, we were able to sleep on the blacktop under the clear sky full of stars. Did I mention we had an all-camp pillow fight before we crawled into bed? The quiet, peaceful sound of night was a sign of a successful, fun-filled day.

When Wednesday rolled by, the campers were placed onto teams and put on their game faces to compete against each other. We played games taken from other countries and gave them our own twists. The campers were also able to go down a large slip and slide that went down MCC’s hill made by our pool directors. At the end of the night, campers picked from an assortment of toppings for their much enjoyed sweet ice-cream sundae.

It was finally Thursday, the day that most campers look forward too…the dance! After getting all ‘dolled’ up, all the cabins raced up the hill to get their best moves going. By the end of the night, everyone was completely exhausted and went to bed easily.

After looking back at this week’s extravaganza, it is easy to say that everyone had a wonderful time and were able to bring home memories and friends that will last a lifetime.

MCC 2015: Week 4: Once Upon A Time

At the start of week four, we welcomed the kids with the enchanting theme of Once Upon A Time. The kids enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the week that were all based on fairy tales and Disney movies.

On Monday, all of the campers were able to choose from a variety of electives to participate in during the time after dinner. Tie-dye was a huge hit this week and almost forty shirts, shorts, hats, and sweatshirts were made by the end of the night. Another group learned all about ballroom dancing, the dance of fairy tales and princess movies. A third activity was ultimate Frisbee which was held on upper field.

Tuesday nights are typically the night during which everyone sleeps out in the woods, but the rain caused a little change in our plans. However, we worked through it, and then everyone played dodgeball and gaga in upper field. Afterwards, the entire camp headed out into the woods to play a few rounds of Scout.

Wednesday was the ultimate event of the week in which the kids participated in All Camp. Working with the theme of the week, the kids were broken into groups with three counselors. The kids had to work together to dress up each of the counselors into a prince, princess, and villain. After a little while, everyone came together in the Morton Building. The counselors had to introduce themselves, lip sync to a classic Disney song, and perform in a skit that included everyone in the group. At the end of the night, the winning prince was Aladdin, the winning princess was Ana from Frozen, and the winning villain was Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. The kids had a fantastic time dressing up their counselors and everyone laughed the entire night.

Finally on Thursday, we switched things up a little bit. Because of the rain on Tuesday, the kids weren’t able to cook in the woods. So instead, the kids cooked hamburgers, hotdogs, and s’mores out in the woods on this night. After everyone was finished eating, everyone came back to camp and got ready for the dance. Everyone danced the rest of the night away, singing along with every song.

Overall, the week was fantastic for everyone. Everyone had plenty of laughs and enjoyed the enchanting elements incorporated for Once Upon A Time.

MCC 2015: Week 3: The Hunger Games

Week 3! This week campers participated activities for The Hunger Games week. During this session campers were also able to participate in the weekly camp out, some fun-filled all camp activities, and enjoy themselves in an amazing dance with am upbeat and energetic camp requested playlist.

On Monday campers participated in all-camp activities inspired by The Hunger Games week theme. Campers were able to build fires, shelters, and learn other hunger games survivor tips that mimicked the idea of mentoring and Blog2 - Copystrategizing before the games. Campers were also able to participate in a dynamic game of dodge ball where the blacktop was split into four sides and all four sides competed against each other in order to earn money for their districts that later played a significant hand in the game itself. The campers were highly eager and devoted to positively representing their districts, and during the week we saw a plethora of district pride.

The dance was held on Wednesday night. The campers and staff were “shaking it off” and having a fantastic time! Everybody danced and sang all night, and while every one was extremely exhausted by the end of the night, all of the campers and staff were happy with how the dance turned out.

Thursday, the campers were able to fight to the end in the third MCC Hunger Games! A gigantic game of dodge ball aimed to mimic The Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins, which included multiple different types of weapons, a cornucopia, as well as sponsors and gifts that the district mentors were able to provide for their tributes with the money each district won throughout the week. The tributes used their strategies, talents, wit, instincts, and bravery to defend themselves and be the last tribute standing.

Overall everyone at camp had a phenomenal time and hopefully took home some wonderful and sentimental camp filled memories.
