MCC 2015: Week 2: Camp’s Got Talent

Before the week began we had an addition to the Barnville core: a new beef cow and its calf! All the campers that participated in the core were thrilled about it. The mother is Mertle and the baby calf is named Coral. The newest members of the MCC family have been gladly welcomed.

On Monday we had the weeBarnville for Blogkly cookout. The six cabins grilled hot dogs and hamburgers in the woods, and later played a game of Scout. Everyone had a blast sleeping under the stars.

Our CIT program completed their project of making new signs for all the campsites. After all the planning and painting, they were finally able to hang them up in the woods by the appropriate campsite. It was a big accomplishment for our Counselors In Training.

Laser Tag for BlogTuesday there was an all-camp game of laser tag. Special Forces came and set up obstacles in upper field and got the laser guns ready for us. The campers and counselors were split up into four teams and played each other in action packed games. Everyone was very enthusiastic and competitive during laser tag; it was a great night! Glow in the dark dog tags were given out as a souvenir to remember all the fun.

Because this week was “Camp’s Got Talent”, a talent show was held on Wednesday. Counselors dressed up as a famous pop star and chose songs for them to lip-sync and dance to. During the talent show the counselors performed while all dressed up in their costumes. A winning pop star was chosen after they all performed. We also had campers, CITs, and counselors performing in the talent show. There were so many different talents: Talent Show from singers to magicians to gymnasts. Everyone who presented did so well: making the night such a success!
The dance was held Thursday night. A lot of time before the dance was spent getting ready, but everybody looked great once it was time to head up to the Morton building. Everybody danced all night long. All the campers love the dance and have so much fun. By the end of the night everyone is exhausted, but smiling from ear to ear.

We look forward for next week: The Hunger Games! Remember: Camp Friends are Forever Friends!

MCC 2015: Week 1: Murder Mystery

We started off week one with 35 campers for Murder Mystery Week. It has been a great start of the summer, and the next seven weeks will certainly be just as good.

The whole camp slept out in the woods. It was a success! We missed the thunderstorms and all had a great time! Hot dogs and hamburgers were cooked over the fire at each campsite, and around eight everyone gathered to play a game of Scout, where campers need to sneak up and touch a rock without being detected by counselors with flashlights. The camp out is always a favorite among the campers.

On Tuesday the entire camp met in the dining hall while thunderstorms rolled in. We lost power all throughout camp and didn't get it back until the next day. The twenty-two hours the camp spent without lights or water consisted of paper plates and a lot of flashlights! Overall, it was a bonding experience that the campers and counselors surely will never forget!

Wednesday night during our all camp event was the Haunted Walk that provided each camper the opportunity to unravel a camp murder mystery. Some of the counselors and CITs remade themselves into terrifying creatures to make the theme come alive. Afterwards, we finished the spooky night with ice cream sundaes for everyone.

In exciting nature news, we also had the privilege of finding Eastern Box Turtle laying eggs at the end of the week. We built a turtle enclosure to help keep the turtle eggs safe!

With week one now completed, we look forward to the rest of the summer to continue providing our campers with a summer filled of memories they will never forget!

Camp friends are forever friends!

The Top 5 Reasons to Love Middlesex County Camp

What do you love about Middlesex County Camp? It’s a question everyone asks themselves—from first time campers to veteran board members. As such, everyone will have a different answer! Below you’ll find Board Member Anthony’s top 5.

BUT! We’d love to hear your opinions! Share your top 5 on our FACEBOOK PAGE, or in the comments section below! For now, here goes the countdown!

5) SNACK TIME

Sometimes you just need a little something to hold you over until dinner. Or, something cool like popsicles or chocolate chip ice cream cookie sandwiches to enjoy in the shade with friends. To me, it was always such a relaxed, fun time of day just to catch up with the whole camp.

4) LIVING IN THE CABIN

They say Camp Friends are Forever Friends. In my case that’s certainly true—and all because of the overnight cabin living experience. The connections you make and the bonds you form during as short a time as a week truly do stay with you forever.

3) THE WOODS

At Camp, I learned all about how beautiful the woods could be. From making gnome homes and shelters to just exploring the stream, I will always feel a peace and happiness whenever I walk the trails to this day.

2) THE CLIMBING WALL

Since I used to be Rock Wall Director, the Climbing Wall will always have a special piece of my heart. It’s where I challenged myself when I was a camper to keep trying to climb all of our three wall fronts, and where counselors motivated me to always strive to be my best.

1) THE ZIP LINE

High. Octane. Action. You really cannot beat our new zip line, which wisps you through our beautiful woods and over upper field. The whole experience is incredibly exciting from the moment you get strapped into the zip line.
